Hi all, I was wondering if there are any civil engineers on this sub that work in Poland? I have a few questions. I'm a civil engineer from the US that has recently moved to Poland due to personal reasons and I wasn't able to secure a job prior to moving here but have enough cash to last me until I do. So my questions, starting with the most important to me are: If working for an international company, is there a diverse workforce and is English the primary language? I ask because I haven't spoken Polish in over 20 years until just 2 weeks ago. Luckily, I understand everything except some technical terms because my parents never stopped speaking Polish to me. I can speak with enough fluency to get through the day at stores, getting a haircut, etc. But it will be about a month or more (if I keep reading out loud in Polish for hours each day) before I can speak with extreme fluency like the locals. So English would be preferred during interviews and at the workplace. I have a feeling local companies all speak Polish but maybe at some international companies it's English?

In fact, my company as a whole doesn't really do much statistical analysis at all despite having around 50 PhD/MS economists and statisticians. My question is this, how soon do I need to get out? I recently interviewed for another role and was amazed at how much statistics I have already forgotten. I was hoping to stay here for 2 years for my resume, but if I'm not using my statistics knowledge for 2 years, will that kill my future job prospects? Has anyone experienced something similar? I feel like I've made a huge mistake right out of the gate in my career.

They knew that I was good at technical work but the communications with clients (business people) and creating fancy documents for non-IT people wasn't really my thing. The work was fine, the tasks were manageable, and the personal aspect was great for maybe like a month, but not after that (thanks Covid). I left that job for other reasons and got an offer from another consulting company soon after I left. My CV clearly stated my strengths and it seemed like the company had real technical projects in the pipeline. They hired me as an IT consultant with a promise there will be a lot of technical projects (especially cloud transformation which I'm really interested in). It was only partly true. Some projects I had were interesting (I even got the opportunity to develop a small application, but that was a one-time thing), but the others were like "business bullsh*t" for me. I started to realize the importance of the business and management side since, but I'm struggling with getting stuff done well.
